Signs of a Bad Serpentine Belt
Belts give plenty of warning. Replace one before it fails and it's a quick job.
Squeal at Startup
A squeal or chirp when you start the car, worse on cold or wet mornings.
Cracks or Fraying
Cracks across the ribs, missing chunks or frayed edges on the belt.
Battery Light, Heavy Steering
Battery light on and the steering suddenly heavy at the same time: the belt has likely snapped.
Temperature Rising
On many engines the belt drives the water pump, so a failed belt means overheating.
A/C Suddenly Stops
If the A/C or power steering quits suddenly, check the belt.
Leaking Hoses
Coolant leaking from a radiator or heater hose, often found during a belt check.

What Customers Say About Eric
Copied word for word from Eric's Google reviews.
“When I first decided to use a mobile service I was a little nervous and didnt know what to expect. I work a lot and dont really have the time to take my car to a shop and wait around. Salts waorked around my schedule, great affordable pricing. The best part was the communication. If he had to run for a part he let me know. He didn’t try to upsell me on a bunch of unnecessary fixes. If something was bad he called me out to look at it, gave his opinion and left the option up to me without pressuring me into a purchase. I will absolutely use this young man for future needs!!”
“Eric came to where my son’s car was and fixed what needed fixed. He’s an honest, reliable and knowledgeable young man! Highly recommended using him!”
“Eric was so helpful. I was traveling out of state and he got me back on the road in 3 and half hours even with part issues. He gave me a great price and great service. Would highly recommend!”
Serpentine Belt Replacement Questions
How much does a serpentine belt replacement cost?
It depends on the vehicle and whether the tensioner or pulleys need replacing too. Eric gives you the price on the call, before he heads out.
Can I drive with a broken serpentine belt?
No. The belt usually drives the alternator, water pump and power steering, so the battery stops charging, the engine can overheat and steering gets heavy. Pull over and call.
Why does my car squeal when I start it?
Usually a worn, glazed or loose belt, or a weak tensioner. Eric checks the belt and the tensioner and replaces what's worn.
Should the tensioner be replaced with the belt?
If it's worn, yes. A weak tensioner lets a new belt slip and squeal. Eric checks it and tells you before replacing it.
Do you replace timing belts?
On select vehicles, yes. Tell Eric the car when you call and he'll tell you whether it's a mobile job.
Do you come out at night or on weekends?
Yes. Eric takes calls 24/7, weekends included. Visits between 6pm and 5am carry a flat $200 after-hours fee, which he tells you about on the call.
